The European Union Publishes New Directive on Energy Efficiency of Buildings Directive (EU) 2024/1275

The European Union has presented the new Building Energy Efficiency Directive, with the ambitious objective of decarbonizing the building stock by 2050. This regulation sets various goals and actions to achieve this, requiring that all new buildings be zero emissions at starting January 1, 2030.

🏢 Transformation of the Building Park:
Buildings will have to generate all the energy they need or use very little from the grid.
Fossil fuel burning equipment will not be permitted during use of the building.

🔄 Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings:
Each member state must draw up a National Building Renovation Plan.
This plan must establish policies and measures to advance decarbonization.

🔍 Indicators and Trajectories:
The most energy inefficient buildings must be rehabilitated.
A primary energy consumption threshold will be determined that will be mandatory to meet.

🛠️ New Measurements and Tools:
Readiness Indicator for Smart Building Applications (SRI).
Prohibition of financial incentives for fossil fuel boilers from January 1, 2025.
Creation of a building renovation passport.
One-stop shops for information and technical and financial support.

📈 Benefits:
Energy savings and economic costs.
Improving people’s health.
Contribution to combating energy poverty.
Incentive to linked economic activity.
With this new directive, the European Union reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition and the fight against the climate emergency. 🌱🌟
