PACI Global and EURECAT promote the reuse of solar panels with the REEMER project
The EURECAT technology center in Manresa is hosting the development and validation of the REEMER project (Reuse of electronic equipment from the renewable energy market), an initiative led by PACI Global to promote the circular economy in the photovoltaic sector.
The project’s objective is to reuse solar panels at the end of their useful life through a new business model that integrates the collection, repair, and resale of this equipment through a proprietary platform. This addresses the environmental problems arising from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), preventing its accumulation in landfills and reducing the associated environmental impact.
The EURECAT facilities are the setting for the project’s technical testing, including efficiency tests on recovered solar panels and performance tests following international standards. In addition, the feasibility of reusing key components such as IGBT transistors, essential for the production of new panels, is being evaluated.
This project aligns with European and national regulations on electronic waste management, paving the way for a replicable model in other companies and sectors. With the support of technology entities and the commitment of PACI Global, REEMER is positioning itself as a pioneering initiative in leveraging resources for the transition to a more sustainable and circular economy.
The project is supported by the Catalan Waste Agency’s call for grants for projects promoting the circular economy, within the framework of the Catalan Waste and Resources Prevention and Management Program (PRECAT20).
